Panasonic acquired Technics years ago, the brand recently released the $200 Technics EAH-AZ70W in a tough competition for ANC true wireless earbuds which is notably mentioned Airpods Pro, Sony WF-1000XM3.

The Technics EAH-AZ70W gets almost basic features such as touch control, companion app but lacks of advanced features because they don’t have sensors to detect when the buds are placed in the ear to play music.

Verdict

7.5 Technics EAH-AZ70W

Technics EAH-AZ70W arent’ bold in design and doesn’t offer a big bass instead they look more premium and are greatly compromising for feature and sound. The natural sounding profile is safe for many kinds of music. If you really look for a pair of ACN that works the Technics EAH-AZ70W is not the top choice but combined with the sound they are probably a contender.

Package & Accessories

4 pairs of silicon eartips (XS, S, L, XL), USB-C charging cable, charging case and a pair of EAH-AZ70W.

Battery life

Our battery test: the Galaxy Buds Live can last for approximately 6 hours with ANC ON. Given the bud’s size the 6 hours of battery is not that impressive figure.

Pairing

Pairing is simple and the Bluetooth connection is highly reliable. The Left-Right Independent Signalling System as the company claims work flawlessly – either buds will balance out itself to maintain the solid connection.

You can pair with multiple devices at the same time, but you have to switch manually between devices – it’s not that you can do it by touch to control.

Comfort & Fit

Not unique as Galaxy Buds Live or Airpods Pro, Technics EAH-AZ70W’s housing look a bit larger – but they can be rated as medium-sized earbuds. But as nature of in ear headphones they fit and stay put by eartips that if you pick the right pair they are about to sack up. No sports tips included but the IPX4 rating is fine if you take them for running outdoors

Call performance

Solid call quality perhaps is a must for a pair of true wireless earbuds and the Technics EAH-AZ70W and you can use either L, R earbud individually for call they it did well.

Active Noise Cancelling

The “dual hybrid” noise cancellation tech is not new, it uses two systems of mic, one is feedforward noise cancellation (FF-NC) and the other is feedback noise cancellation (FB-NC) and the Panasonic just did it right, the ANC effect doesn’t outperform other like Sony and Sennheiser, but it’s effective. Meanwhile the transparency mode and adjustable noise cancelling level feature are also met the requirement for TWS.

Sound Quality

Frankly, the EAH-AZ70W in particular doesn’t top the competition for the sound. While not specifically focusing on any range, the EAH-AZ70W stands for the nature sounding, with a bit push in treble.

It’s generally safe to say that the dynamic 10mm drivers with a graphene-coated PEEK diaphragm reduces the distortion and harshness on the high.

Should they be compared with similar style like WF-1000XM3, Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2, Audio-Technica ATH-ANC300TW and 1More’s True Wireless ANC, they all come in the sealed style.

The the EAH-AZ70W are able to do a good job for bass – which is rich and well-defined, a bit lack in ohms compared to Sony WF-1000XM3.

The treble is sometime over performed, that’s too bright that mid-range is overwhelmed.
